Kaiya Patel was told she needed a stem cell transplant after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia earlier this year. She was taken to Watford General Hospital after her family noticed bruising on her legs. Kaiya, who turned six on September 2, spent four weeks receiving treatment at London’s Great Ormond Street hospital but her hopes of finding a donor were made harder because of her ethnic background.
