Historical Bridge: Cavendish Bridge Cavendish Bridge also known as ‘Pont la Ville Noire’ is the only route that links Ville Noire and Mahebourg. The bridge is named after the then governor Sir Charles Cavendish Boyle who was the 19th Governor of Mauritius from 1904 to 1911. The Bridge began construction in 1908 and lasted around 3 years. The concrete bridge was constructed at that time beside the then wooden bridge. The latter was being used till the concrete bridge construction ended. The bridge is approximately 200 m long with a 6.1 m wide carriageway and 1.25 m wide footway on each side of the carriageway.
