Kiswahili language is vital as a medium of
communication in school and beyond in Kenya.
However reading and writing skills are
emphasized over listening and speaking skills

influence of oral communication skills
performance of Kiswahili composition in form
three classes in Homabay Sub-County, Kenya.
The study used communicative language teaching theory which is based on the communicative nature of language.
Descriptive survey design was adopted in this study. Purposive sampling was used to select 64 Kiswahili teachers and
80 students. Data collection tools included teachers' questionnaire, oral test and written test for students. Data was
