FRANCE - BORDEAUX CHÂTEAU OLIVIER 2011 Pessac Léognan - Grand Cru Classé 92/100 White wine with a light golden colour, still fairly youthful; there’s a slight hint of green in there. Very intense nose here, slightly complex because it has oak aging – oak fermentation probably –offering some roasted notes, then there’s a quite tropical fruitiness with notes of stone fruit, citrus. There’s also some sweetness like honey and wax I would say. There’s also a herbal element, but really ripe like, ripe aromatic herbs. Very good grip on the palate, and despite that slightly tropical character I got on the nose, the palate is “positively austere”, as I would put it, bone-dry, well-maintained acidity, really mouthwatering with good grip, good extract. So citrus-infused stone fruit with some of that aromatic spicy herbaciousness lingering on the palate, well-integrated oak, and a really long and powerful finish. A very ambitious wine with good weight and density, yet with that well-kept freshness
