Their is an asterisk by every because Nike believes that if you have a body, no matter what you look like, you are an athlete. The term athlete has been been about such a specific body type for to long. We want to break through that mold and rede- fine the athlete. Blue Ribbon Sports (Nike) was founded on January 24, 1964 in Beaverton, Oregon by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. The idea for the company came about when Phil Knight ran track for the University of Oregon. Phil’s coach was none other than Bill Bowerman. They came up with the idea because there were not many op- tions for track shoes then. They originally started as a distributor for Onitsuka Tiger (ASCICS), but soon started their own company Blue Ribbon Sports.
