Chit (Subtle component of vision and knowledge in the inner functioning instrument called antahkaran) became impure due to ignorance (agnan— ignorance of the Self). Until the chit becomes pure how can one experience Atma—the Self? The solution to purify the chit is to have familiarity with the Gnani Purush. The Gnani Purush is the One who has experienced the Soul completely. He does not have a single parmanu (indivisible particle of an atom) of kashaya: anger-pride-deceit-greed, vishaya—sexual intent or predilection, mamatva—‘my-ness’ ahamkar— ego. It is a very rare opportunity to become familiar with such a Gnani Purush. One becomes familiar with ‘swa—the Self’ and experiences ‘I am Shuddhatma—pure Soul’.One has to follow the five Agnas and understand the Gnan as much as possible by staying close to the Gnani. Just as the Gnani’s introduction is necessary to attain the Gnan—Self-realization, it is also necessary to have the familiarity with satsang.
