At first, the industry viewed Barbie with skepticism, but Handler continued to persevere with her creation. Recently, Barbie came out with a campaign to come back from the skeptic views and to provide a better image for their brand. Now, over 55 years later, Barbie is a global icon inspiring girls everywhere to be anything. Barbie used to receive many criticisms for what their product portrayed to the public, such as the dolls' lack of diversity and their frighteningly unrealistic physique, which can contribute to body image issues in young girls. In 1992, “Teen Talk” Barbie said the phrase "math class is tough,” adding to the sexist stereotype that women are bad at math.
