This picture is called “The Agony of Omarya Sánchez”. It has been taken on November 16, 1985 by the French photographer Frank Fournier. Frank Fournier was born in 1948 in Saint-Sever, France. His father was a surgeon, and Frank first studied medicine to follow the path of his father. But in 1975, he moved to New York City and turned into a photographer. Later, he became a staff photographer at Contact Press Images in 1982 after joining the office staff in 1977. He is the author of reports on children with AIDS in Romania, on the victims of rape during the Sarajevo war in Bosnia and Herzegovina and on the 11 September attacks. Nevertheless, he is most known to be the photographer of “The Agony of Omarya Sánchez”. Indeed, he won the 1985 World Press Photo award for this picture.
