Pub is hub of community LANDOWNER’S ANGER OVER PLANNING SNUB A FORMBY landowner whose huge sports development project was controversially snubbed in the Local Plan says he has been left ‘in a state of disbelief.’ Part of land to the south of Formby Industrial Estate, which is owned by businessman and popu- lar community figure Hugh Mcauley, can not be built on as part of the Local Plan, the Planning Inspectorate has said. Originally eyed up as a potential development site for a huge sports and leisure facility, the land off Altcar Road will now be saved from the bull- dozers. There had been talk of allowing former Formby FC owner Hugh Mcauley to transform the land into a major sports facility for youngsters in Merseyside, as well as allowing a supermarket to develop on part of the unused land – the details of which were earmarked in the Sefton Local Plan.
