President’s Report IN EDUCATION, REFORESTATION IS REQUIRED! In recent years, cuts in education have left wounds that can only be healed with massive reinvestment. My grand father would say that after a clearing, you must re-seed! The 4.5% increase in spending for pre-school, primary and secondary education brings positive change but does not fill the gaps created by a billion dollars of cuts in the last five years. I welcome next year’s addition of 1,500 jobs and the 7,200 jobs that will be added within the next five years for direct services to students. These will be support, professional and teaching jobs. The Fédération du personnel de soutien scolaire (FPSS-CSQ) will continue to convey the message that support staff are part of the solution. Last autumn’s consultations on educational success gave us the opportunity to prove this by providing plenty of examples of actions we could take to contribute to the success of our youth.
