Image of past Healing Journey exhibition at the Hicks Gallery Acquired Brain Injury Project Healing Journey May 1 to 23 Healing Journey is an annual exhibition of work from patients and clients in recovery programs at the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region (PAPHR), the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), and the SK North Acquired Brain Injury Services (ABI). Their work is guided by Alan Ruder, who teaches art programs at each of these locations as well as at the Nest drop-in centre. The visual arts are an important outlet for patients to express themselves. Displaying their artwork in a professional gallery space encourages confidence, self-esteem, and a strong sense of accomplishment. Additionally, it is a method of communication that allows others to understand the artists’ perspectives.
