A Hidden Treasure By Fred Wikoff Stories abound of buried pirate’s treasure, lost gold mines, and sunken ships laden with bullion. It’s the grist for hundreds of novels and adventure movies alike. And more recently the unexpected discovery of oil and natural gas, hidden thousands of feet underground for ages, has kindled the imagination and challenged the world’s economies. Christ says the kingdom of heaven is like such a treasure “‘… hidden in a field. And when a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.’” Matthew 13:44 He couldn’t have used a better example to describe the appeal and worth of His kingdom. Discovering it brings great joy and delight. For finding it not only answers the mystery of life, but promises eternal life as well (see Matthew 6:25–34).
