A SMALL BEGINNNG By Katherine Heath “‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.’” Matthew 13: 31,32 NKJV As many times as I have read this parable, I never thought of the mustard seed beyond the fact that it is small and useful. When I was young in the Lord I needed something of His word to help me stand on my small and weak faith; I focused on Jesus saying that if we had the faith of a mustard seed nothing would be impossible for us (see Matthew 17:20,21). I never focused on the latter part of the parable in Matthew 13:32 which spoke of the mustard seed growing into a large plant. I failed to see the bigger picture that God was revealing to me. In essence, He was letting me know that my faith may start small, but it can grow tremendously if I adhere to His word. It has
