News From The Streets International Day for Street Children 12 April 2023 | Volume 9 Every year on 12th April, children that live on the street globally, and the organisations and governments that support them, celebrate the International Day for Street Children. This is a special day that celebrates the strength and resilience of street connected children around the world, whilst giving them a chance to have their voices heard and share their experiences. 'News From the Streets" is a newspaper written and created by children living and working on the streets of Jinja, Uganda. Our theme this year is safety. Relying on the streets for survival exposes street connected children to many dangerous situations. Direct risks like abuse, exploitation, and criminalisation. As well as indirect risks like deceased opportunities and lack of access to essential services which impact their health and future.
