Thursday, December 18, 2014 FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Community Languages A number of parents have asked me about the possibility of our school commencing a community languages program. A community languages program consists of a series of lessons held out of school-time in identified languages. The program allows for various parent interest groups to provide a program of language and culture development for their children. Depending on the number of students involved, the school makes available various classrooms and trained teachers or volunteers prepare lessons and teach students in these languages. Interested language groups within our community meet and plan the type of program required, recruit a teacher/ volunteer and determine the level of financial support required to pay for resources and if required, teacher salaries. I would like to learn from parents the level of interest in this program and if any parents were interested in working with me in establishing this initiative.
