The reader will have inferred from the title, "The Truth About Easter", that the key to my interest is in disclosing what really lies behind the holiday, not what ecclesiastical authorities tell us about it. I have kept the disclosure germane to the theological question of why Jesus Christ died on the cross. Hence, the first four pages deal critically with atonement theology. The remaining fifteen outline Easter's origins in certain anti-Jewish attitudes and anti-Sabbatarian policies that finally led to Constantine's ratification of a gentilized Sunday Passover at the Council of Nicaea in 325. A few decades later, Theodosius would be outlawing those apostolic Christians who continued to keep the 14th of Nisan as Jesus' swan song in the devotional spirit of 1 Corinthians 5:6-8; John 8:32, 8:44 and Hebrews 10:26.
