The Reasons Why Printer Ribbon Keeps on Breaking
One of the greatest annoyances of using a printer is the snapping of the ribbon during the
middle of a print job. This could be a minor annoyance in the case where the printer is
performing a non critical function or a major disaster if the printer is a front line device like a
POS receipt printer.
In many cases, ribbon could be quickly replaced and there is little loss in the productivity.
However, in several cases ribbons continue to be the showstopper. There are several
reasons why this could happen.
One of the most important reasons of torn or snapped ribbon is the fact that businesses try
to recycle ribbons. Contrary to popular perception, ribbons, like cartridges are not designed
for reuse. In fact, many do not have the “rewind” feature that allows the ribbon to spool
back. Reusing the ribbon by re-instilling the toner could be a bad idea.
