■ Figures from the most recent
Scottish Widows Women and
Pensions Report show the figures for
different age groups.
■ More than 50 per cent of 2229 year olds don’t have a pension
scheme, while 83 per cent don’t know
what an annuity is.
■ 21 per cent of 30-39 year olds
expect to rely on their partner’s
income in retirement.
■ Almost a quarter of 40-49 year
olds prioritise supporting their
children over retirement saving.
■ According to research by insurers
Allianz, 49 per cent of women fear
being homeless and broke when they
are older. But it’s not just those on
lower income levels, a third of the
highest-income earners (£120,000 &
over) say they worry about becoming
a ‘bag lady’.
ROSA (NOT her real name) a married
mum of two, had got tangled up in
worries about money. She and her
husband came to the UK because of his
job, leaving her career (she’s a health
professional) in limbo for a time.
