THEATRE & DANCE SCHEDULE 2023-2024 Flyin’ West by Pearl Cleage Directed by Britney Daniels (Guest Director and ORU Theatre Alumna) September 21-24 Following the end of the Civil War and anxious to leave the South and the increasing disappointments and dangers of Reconstruction, many former slaves took advantage of The Homestead Act and went west to build new lives for themselves and their families. Flyin’ West tells the little-known story of a group of African-American female pioneers in 1898 who settled together in the all-black town of Nicodemus, Kansas. Although they have already overcome tremendous odds, their courage and future is tested when an unexpected and deadly threat invades their home.
