A Greener Side of the Grass
Lately, fraternities and sororities have not been portrayed positively within the media. For
starters, there is the scandal that hit the University of Alabama when a student, despite all of her
well-received qualifications, was not admitted into a sorority because of her race. Then there is
the member of Phi Kappa Tau at Georgia Tech that sent a “luring your rapebait” email to his
fraternity brothers. Then, round that off with an Auburn student being called an anti-sematic
name at a football game, allegedly by an Interfraternity Council member, and you’ve got a full
blown Greek-life crisis.
But what would happen if the light was shown from a different angle? What would
happen if we saw the hard work, the dedication and the determination? One would begin to see
Jazzmin Carr, a junior at Auburn University majoring in English Literature and Sociology.
