Thailand has become a popular movie shooting location by international filmmakers
with a record high spending of over 2.173 billion baht in Thailand from the
shooting of 717 movie titles in 2013, according to the latest statistics from the
Department of Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Acting Second Lieutenant Arnupap Gaesornsuwan, Director General of the Department
of Tourism said the spending of filmmaking companies represented an increase of 22
per cent from that of the previous year when the amount totalled only 1.781 billion
baht from 636 movie titles. He noted that Thailand Film Office, Department of
Tourism, had the responsibility of processing requests for film shooting in
Thailand and to promote Thailand as one of the world's favourite movie location for
regional and international movie production.
The first three highest spending by nationality were movie productions from the
United States of America with 33 titles, involving 552 million baht of spending;
