Automation
Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a microprocessor-based controller
featuring multiple inputs and outputs. By other definition, PLC is a digital
computer with features or programs to facilitate automation of
electomechanical industrial processes. Many successful industries and
machines today use PLC to control machinery such as those in the assembly
lines, light fixtures as well as amusement rides among others.
PLC programming on the other hand involves developing, testing and
publishing programs containing instructions and participates in actions to
control machines and processes. The logic functions performed by PLC
include relays, sequencers, timers and counters. This has many advantages as
will be discussed later.
