intervene for Rays
A group pushing for a downtown Tampa stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays is seeking help
from the commissioner of Major League Baseball.
BuildItDowntownTampa calls itself a coalition of fans concerned about the team s future
in the Tampa area.
It surfaced two years ago by announcing it was studying the feasibility
of a new ballpark, but it never has revealed its members or whether it has funding.
On Wednesday, the group s executive director, Ryan Neubauer, said he sent a letter to
baseball Commissioner Bud Selig urging him to intervene in the Rays standoff with St.
Petersburg.
In the letter, BuildItDowntownTampa asks the commissioner to make Major League
Baseball s position on the stadium debate known and assign a three-person stadium
committee to review it.
