AUGUST 6 - 19, 2024 Metro Life Church epitomizes a family’s commitment to its legacy and the local community BY CHRISTOPHER PEARSON The founding of the Grace Church of Kendall took place in 1963 when John and Ann Alessi built a small Assemby of God chapel at the intersection of SW 104th Street and 82nd Avenue, then a sparsely populated suburb of Miami, which many locals pronounced “Mia-Muh.” What a long way the church has come with a name change, the next generation of leadership and now newly renovated sanctuary. On May 19th, after a multi-million dollar makeover, the church, an interdenominational house of worship now known as Metro Life Church, reopened its Dadeland cam- pus sanctuary at the site of the original chapel. The hand- some building represents just one of the church’s two locations. Metro Life Church’s main sanctuary opened in 1997 in Doral with just seven families.
