Vol. 41, No. 20 MAY 15 - 28, 2023 Judge Sayfie is out of sync with public opinion Publisher BY GRANT MILLER Recently, I wrote a col- umn outlining why it would Fourteen year-old Max Garcia be a bad idea to allow vio- lent criminals to be released immediately after arrest without posting a bond or sets his sights on Indy 500 appearing before a judge. That idea, put forth in a proposal by Nushin G. Say- fie, Chief Judge of the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida, would allow defendants charged with robbery by sudden snatching, animal cruelty re- sulting in serious bodily injury or death, and non- domestic assault and battery to go home after being booked. That’s not what Miami-Dade County resi- dents want.
