Colorado Springs is just over 6000 .ft above sea level making it a little higher elevation when compared with Denver. It is shielded against the harshest of weather conditions because of the 2 natural barriers consisting of Rocky Mountains to the west and, towards the north, Monolith Divide. In the late 1800's, the town was often frequented by a multitude of people from Britain that came for the weather conditions along with the magnificent vistas and this produced the nickname "Little London".
