A letter opposing football
addressed to the Tennessee
Board of Regents is circulating
among the faculty on campus.
When the letter was sent to
the TBR on Wednesday, before the vote on football, it had
50 signatures.
Since then, 27
more teachers have added their
names to the list supporting
the message.
“The problem I have the
most with the football initiative has to do with the fact that
faculty and students at large
had no say in the decision,” said
Dr.
Katherine Weiss, associate
professor of English.
“Basically
the decision has been made
because the SGA, 25 students,
voted for it.
”
The letter, drafted by Weiss,
addresses the financial issues
with placing costs on students,
and the quick speed that the
football proposal was created
and approved.
Students will be charged
$125 per semester in addition
to the other tuition costs for
football.

majority of students work to
pay their way through college,
