A famous Glenkens inn has been saved from closure at the hands of a London property developer. When Dalry’s Clachan Inn was put up for sale the existing managers, Phil Papworth and Laura Burnie, put in a bid to purchase the property. Unbeknown to them a higher offer had been received. They only discovered their offer had been unsuccessful when they got a phonecall from a gentleman stating that he was their new manager and they would need to get ready to shut up shop as he had plans to turn the building into houses. As luck would have it, the potential for development wasn’t quite as straightforward as the purchaser had initially thought, so the deal fell through and Phil and Laura landed the pub after all. Local lass Laura, who grew up in Parton, said: “We are just thrilled to own the building.
