CARSPHAIRN SHOP RE-OPENS
Dumfries & Galloway
Council has withdrawn
funding support
for the Glenkens
Community Centre in
Dalry from 2014.
The decision is the result of an
ongoing review of leisure services
in Dumfries and Galloway.
The
council needs to save £200,000
from its leisure services budget
and is doing this by closing
a number of town halls and
community centres across the
region.
The council’s aim is to
have ‘fewer but better’ services of
this kind.
Local groups, however,
feel that having a ‘better’ facility
somewhere else will, given the
limited public transport links
available, have no positive impact
on their way of life.
