In the final few weeks of the 2012/13 school year,
pupils from Carsphairn Primary School took their
learning to the forest where the boys and girls
had six sessions in the beautiful Glenlee Forest.
Children had the opportunity to learn different knots, enjoy a scenic
hike around the forest, traverse the Craigshinnie Burn, learn about
some of the flora and fauna, build their own shelters, find all kinds
of hiding places and even make and drink a hot cup of tea!
Forest schools
are a type
of outdoor
education in
which children
visit forests,
learning
personal,
social and
technical skills.
Activities build
independence
and self-esteem,
and highly
valuable personal
skills are also
developed such
as teamwork and
problem solving.
