Biography:
Abraham stoker was born in Contlarf (near Dublin, Ireland) on November 8 of 1847.
Stoker was
educated at Trinity College where he was honored in every subject.
He entered the University
of Dublin and became an outstanding athlete.
After 10 years of civil service he met the actor
Henry Irving in 1876, and two years later he moved to London and became the acting manager
at the Lyceum Theater.
During this year Stoker entered the fashionable circles of London
and accompanied Irving on his numerous American tours.
During this time he began writing
novels (although he had published his stories since 1872), his first novel The Snake’s Pass
was published in 1890, but he did not realize fame until the overwhelming success of Dracula
(1897).
He began the novel in 1890 (year it was rumored he entered the Order of the Golden
Dawn) before spending many years researching European folklore and mythological stories
of vampires.
