“This achievement is the fruit of the FGN 2002
backward integration policy for the cement sector
which was designed to transform Nigeria from net
importer to self-sufficiency and exporter of cement,”
hesaid.
Noting that the plant currently ranks as the largest
cement plant in sub-Saharan Africa, he added that it
will create jobs for about 7,000 Nigerians, substantially
boostthesupplyofcementintheNigerianmarket,and
ultimately bring down price of the commodity.
He said
Dangote Cement will soon embark on the construction
of another 6 million metric tonnes per annum Ibese
Phase II cement project, which will take Ibese to 12.

combined, give us a figure of over 20 million metric
tonnes per annum capacity, making us a power house
in cement production in Africa.
