Kate Chopin’s original name was Katie O’ Flaherty.
She was born in the
1850s by her Irish father and French mother.
As Kate Chopin grew up her
great grandmother taught her storytelling, in both English and French.
Her
grandmother was an independent, free thinker.
Kate attended Sacred Heart
Academy which inspired people to be intelligence and independent thinkers.
In 1861 while the Civil War was going on her lost her closest family, including
her great grandmother.
During this depressing time she began writing war
stories about loss, grief, terror, and fear.
Her whole life began to revolve
around death.
After Kate graduated her life became very different.
Women
had to wear constricting clothes, reading, writing, and thinking were not one
thing that women around that time did.
In 1870 she married a man named
Oscar Chopin in which they had six children together.
Only twelve years after
their marriage Kate Chopin’s husband died and only three years
