Before you can even begin to translate a document you must read it.
Now for reading to happen
there must be understanding.
You must know what the paper says.
This requires the
translator to go over the reading material several times before she can begin to translate.
It is important to identify the portions of the paragraph or sentences that are not
understood.
If you’re working with a hard copy you can circle the parts that are not clear.
You
may highlight them and make notes to yourself.
These could be single words, phrases or idioms.
In any case it is important to use the correct
resources.
These may include on-line idioms lists, dictionaries or maybe even a thesaurus.
Once these rough patches have been taken care of the translator can work on her first rough
draft.
A rough draft is the first version of your translated document.
