" U strummulo" (Spinning top)
Description: the “strummolo” was a small
pear-shaped tool; a groove shaped like a spiral
was cut into the upper part: on this groove a
rope was wrapped.
The external end of the rope was to be firmly
hold between the first and second finger.
In the
middle of lower part of the “strummolo” a
pointed piece of iron was stuck so that the
“strummolo” could spin on it.
If the point of
the Strummolo was a bit bent the strummolo
was called "brebbeto" and the player had to be
really skilled if he wanted to make it turn
round.
Instructions: The strummulo could be cast " a
coppa a mano" when the player first raised his
hand above then moved it behind himself (in
order to give more strength to the toss), and
soon after he threw the strummolo forward; " a
sott a mano", when the strummolo was
launched at hand’s level with its point below.
Participants: two or more children.
