While the wheel trim does not
contribute to the vehicle s function, it does provide decorative value, and the reason many vehicles
are adorned with signature wheel trims is so that others who see the vehicle can recognize the make
and model right away.
The initial functional wheel trims were called dust or grease caps and they had threads to fit them to
the center of the hub.
Most of the cars now have the wheel trim with the snap on design center cap,
these were first introduced around 1932 for the wire wheels.
1935 wheel trims were small and only
covered the hubs center, but 1935 was also known for the introduction of trims covering the full
wheel as well as barring the outer lip.
