REDRICKSBURG—Boot Ranch Golf Club is carved out of a Texas Hill
Country landscape that would have made a perfect setting for an old western.
Instead, in September it served as the scene of a Wild West-style shootout
at the State Mid-Amateur Championship.
After all the shots had been fired and casualties lay all around, Austin’s Mike
Minicucci had rallied from five shots behind to earn a one-stroke victory over four
challengers.
He was the only player to survive the Hal Sutton-designed layout under
par for 54 holes.
While rainfall softened the state’s No.
4-ranked layout all three days of the
championship and offered easier scoring conditions, the course also took more than
its fair share of casualties.
