The specific
objectives of this program are:
- To enhance client nutrition
knowledge and food choices
using several education
components including the “5A-Day Plan” for healthy
eating, weekly access to the
farmers’ market and on-site
nutrition consultants.
- To enhance gardening skills
and self-reliance by
encouraging clients to
participate in a small
gardening project.
Clients
plant their own herb gardens in
window boxes throughout the
shelter grounds as well as
design, develop, plant,
maintain, and harvest a small
vegetable garden.
- To promote the “5-A-Day
Plan” for healthy eating by
developing a bulletin board
which is centrally located in
the shelter and specifically
