Why Sleep Deprivation Should be Taken Seriously
New parents are all too familiar with the effects of sleep deprivation as they struggle to adjust to
broken sleep each night.
Thankfully for most of them, this phase passes when their new baby
settles into a regular routine.
For those who don’t, the effects of poor sleep can be debilitating.
Poor judgment and memory, slow reaction times, reduced alertness, concentration and work
efficiency, and shortened attention span are just some of the impacts on human performance
caused by sleep deprivation.
Of course, this is not the exclusive province of new parents.
Poor
sleeping habits have crept into all of our lives, largely due to changes in technology and work/life
balance.
Although we don’t realise it, many of us are choosing poor sleep by staying out late and
socialising, or not switching off our electronic devices, and simply going to bed.
