The implementation of vaccines requires information to support this, yet the evidence of disease burden remains
elusive in the places where these vaccines are needed most, and in Africa –with the exception of a few countries
including The Gambia – the acquisition of good data remains a problem.
David Goldblatt is Professor of Vaccinology and Immunology and
Head of the Immunobiology Unit at the Institute of Child Health,
University College London.
He is also a Consultant Paediatric
Immunologist at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in
London.
Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, David Goldblatt is
a long-standing collaborator with MRC The Gambia, although he has
never visited the Unit before.
Here he reports back on his first visit.
