Ansaldo Energia, a Finmeccanica group company, yesterday signed a contract worth over EUR 245 million with Cairo Electricity Production Company, which forms part of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company.
The Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract is for the design and construction of a turnkey 600MW open-cycle power plant in Egypt at the site known as the “6 October”, on the outskirts of Cairo.
The plant consists of four units equipped with four AE94.2 gas turbines plus the relevant generators and auxiliary systems. Work on the new thermal power plant will be carried out particularly quickly over a period of 14 months.
Expressing his satisfaction with the order winning, Giuseppe Zampini, Chief Executive Officer of Ansaldo Energia, commented: “This is an important deal for Ansaldo Energia, as it returns to this Mediterranean country with a large-scale project and lays the foundations for new constructions in the future.”
