December 23, 2021 Leadership Message “I bring you good news of great joy for all the people.” Heralding this message, the angels proclaimed: “To you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior.” Guarding the flocks, the shepherds heard the words. These sky watchers, skilled in hearing and seeing the visions of the night, discerned the unexpected. Jesus was announced to persons who sheltered creation, studied nature, collaborated on a mission and willingly journeyed with only a sign to the Messiah. Are we, like the shepherds, alert to signs of God in our world as we celebrate Jesus’ birth? Can we accept the mission to be Gospel messengers, proclaiming “good news of great joy for all the people”? The people of the world need this message from us. On this eve of Christmas, let us, the Mercy community, shout the Good News—“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to all peoples!”
