Lamifil HS contact wire Lamifil is a vertically integrated manufacturer casting its own copper alloys. Today Lamifil produces CuMg, CuSn, CuCd, and CuP on its upcasters. These alloys are mainly used in wires for overhead electrification of railway tracks. Copper magnesium was developed as an environmental friendly alternative to the high strength copper cadmium alloy. Copper magnesium is therefore the ideal alloy for contact wire for high speed lines exceeding 300 km/h. The speed of the train is limited by the speed of the wave caused by the pantograph on the contact wire. By increasing the installation tension of the contact wire, the speed of this wave can be increased enabling higher operating speeds. The tensile strength of the contact wire is therefore a deciding element that determines these installation tensions. Copper magnesium has the highest tensile strength compared to the other alloys appearing in the EN 50149 standard. Relying on its technical expertise, Lamifil has devel
