Presentation about Story Structure given April 20, 2009 given at Westminster College by award-winning playwright and film producer Jeffrey Gold. This presentation discusses the ubiquitous three act structure and uses a case study of The Shawshank Redemption to show how two overlapping three-act structures give rise to a four-act structure. The talk also discusses how all n-Act structures inherently contain components of the DNA of the basic 3-Act structure. Some examples of story structure outside of storytelling, film, and theatre are also discussed.
