Coming To Jesus For Healing By Gary Dean Mark 9:42-50 presents me with some thought-provoking statements. If my hand causes me to sin, I should cut it off. If my foot causes me to sin, I should cut it off. With the same circumcising knife of circumstances, it quotes our Lord: “And If your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out.” Mark 9:47 These are hard words to hear from Jesus. Does He literally want me to cut off my hand, or my foot, and remove my eye by plucking it out? How physical does this spiritual instruction get? Perhaps our hands do cause sin to linger in our lives, when we try to grasp all we can. That’s one of the lusts of the flesh (pleasures.) Maybe we’re the ones jumping up and down repeatedly proclaiming, “It’s all about me!” This smacks of the pride of life (popularity). Or possibly the culprits are our ever wandering eyes, constantly wanting what they see. I believe that’s the lust of the eyes (for possessions) as referenced in 1 John 2:16. Jesus instructed us to cut off
