An Open Invitation By Jan Sheerin Jesus told this story with urgency near the end of His life when both an invitation and a warning became urgent. “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son.” Matthew 22:2. The story spans the Biblical epic of God’s having invited His chosen people, the Jews, to follow Him. In practice they rejected the covenant, and the Messiah was killed. When God extended His grace to the Gentiles, some within each called group responded, and still do today. But, one person came to the wedding feast without the proper clothes, yet in those days the king would provide the garments. That fact reminds us if we ask King Jesus to make us accept- able, He will do it. For His followers, a wonderful party is coming. It’s essential to be prepared. Words in this story remind me of God the provider, as mentioned throughout the Bible. In Genesis 3:21 He provided skins for Adam and Eve to cover their newly-discovered nakedness. On Mount Moria
