can change or complement to the meaning of a word.
Morphology: word formation
Morpheme
Is the smallest unit of a word with meaning, example: un
believable.
Affix: is a morpheme that comes at the begining of a
word.
Suffix: morpheme that comes at the ene of the main
morpheme.
Those are known as bound morpheme.
Bound morpheme: can not stand alone as a word, it needs
a base morpheme to have meaning eg: ly, s, tion
Base morpheme: morpheme that give a word its meaning,
it is like the principle morpheme.
Eg invitation in this
example invi is the base morpheme.
Free morpheme: it is a morpheme that can stand aloje as a
word , eg:
Cat or able: you know the meaning alone, it does not need
another morpheme to have meaning.
Inflection: they can only be suffix, they change the
meaning of the words, eg: tion, ed
