Thirty-some years ago, when I was a kid, summer vacation meant two months straight of outdoor activity, playing with friends from sun-up to sun-down. We only stopped for food breaks and to begrudgingly go to bed. Fast forward to 2016 and this scenario is rarely seen. Often our kids are sitting for long periods of time in front of a TV or video screen and ingesting unhealthy snacks and beverages. The daily implementation of technol- ogy has drastically changed our life- styles, causing this generation of kids to have the highest rates of obesity, diabetes and depression we have ever seen. However, the incidence of these diseases can be reduced and possibly eradicated if we just teach our kids to get up and move.
