THE BIOSPHERE
The Biosphere is the amount of living beings that live in the Earth from the
biggest to the smallest. It includes animals, plants, fungi, bacteria and protozoa.
All living beings are made of cells, and cells are made of biomolecules that are
made of bioelements.
There are four types of biomolecules:
 Glucids: they give us energy and make some structures, like the cell wall of
plants that is made of cellulose. They can be broken down into glucose.
 Lipids: they give us energy and are the main components of the cell
membrane. They can be broken down into fatty acids and cholesterol.
 Proteins: they can make structures like muscles, and help us to transport
oxygen by the haemoglobin.
 Nucleic acids: they contain the genetic material which is important for the
reproduction and the maintenance of the species.
A part of these biomolecules, cells also have water and minerals.
