The opening ceremony was held on August 5th in the evening , the closing ceremony was held on August 21st . The Olympics hode place in Brazil in the city of Rio . It was in this city that we saw triumphs for Teddy Rinher in judo , Neymar in football and of others . In the medal standings , United - States came first , 46 gold medals and a total of 121 medals , gold , siver , and bronze combined . Great - Britain came 2nd with 27 gold medals and 67 in total . Despite accumulating 70 medals China came 3rd with 26 gold medals . France has 42 medals for only 10 gold . Joy , laughter , tears , fear , anxiety , tension , spectacle ... These olympic games games 2016 we saw very good sport .
